The ‘Hare Krishna Movement,’ formally known as the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), is rooted in the ancient teachings of the Vedas, which are philosophical texts dating back over 5,000 years.
In 1965, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, affectionately called ‘Srila Prabhupada’ by his followers, introduced the movement to the Western world. Srila Prabhupada authored more than sixty volumes of authoritative translations, commentaries, and summaries of India’s philosophical and religious classics. As a result, he is celebrated as one of India’s foremost spiritual ambassadors of the 20th century.
